iPhone 5 Pre orders hit 2million

iPhone 5 SidebySideApple have flown through their first batch of stock of the iPhone 5 after Pre-Order sales reached over 2 million in just 24 hours, This official figure from apple means the iPhone 5 has more than doubled the figures from its predecessor, the iPhone 4s. Apple have been quoted as saying that “this is the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”

Even thought the iPhone 5 is only an incremental increase tech wise from the 4s, it is flying off the shelves and after researching further into this figure, turns you can calculate some interesting facts.

83,334 iPhones pre-ordered per hour

1,389 iPhones pre-ordered per minute

23 iPhones pre-ordered per second.

iPhone 5

Its finally here, and worryingly for an Apple device with Steve Jobs out the picture all the rumors seem to have come true!

iPhone 5 Splash

To summarize the new iPhone will have a longer 4″ screen and will also support LTE networks, the new design has slightly beveled corners and the metal strip around the outside of the case is colour coded black or white to match the fascia. The device will utilize a faster A6 chip alongside what seems to be completely re-designed WiFi and Cellular chips to enable “faster WiFi” and access to the faster LTE Network. Apple have also designed new ear bud headphones that are included with the iPhone that are apparently “re-designed from the sound up”

4 inch Retina Display

The new 4 inch retina display lets you see more of everything, and everything you see is more lifelike and vivid, its a larger more beautiful canvas made the right way because even though the display is bigger then handset is the same width as previous models making it just as easy to use with one hand.

Ultrafast Wireless

With support for the latest LTE wireless technologies the iPhone 5 connects to fast networks all over the world. WiFi is now even faster too with remarkable streaming and download speeds wherever you may be.

Powerfull A6 Chip

The all new designed A6 chip used in the new iPhone is remarkably powerful yet not power hungry, CPU performance and graphics are up to twice as fast as on the A5 chip and with an even better battery life.

iSight Camera

iPhone is the most popular camera in the world. For good reason. Photos look so stunning, it’s hard to believe they were taken with a mobile phone. And everything that made the iSight camera in iPhone 4S the world’s favorite is now on iPhone 5 — and then some. The new panorama feature lets you capture everything from a family reunion group photo to a jaw-dropping shot of the Grand Canyon. With one smooth motion you can shoot up to an impressive 240 degrees. The gyroscope, A6 chip, and Camera app work together to create one seamless, high-resolution panorama up to 28 megapixels.

Another feature worth mentioning is that the front facing camera is now HD quality for using with FaceTime calls.

Lightning Connector

Making iPhone 5 thinner and lighter required a pivotal change: replacing the 30-pin connector with something newer, smaller, and better. Introducing the Lightning connector. It features an all-digital, eight-signal design that’s significantly more durable than the 30-pin connector. Another brilliant feature of Lightning: It’s reversible. Which means there’s no wrong way to plug in the cable.

Apple Maps

The new Maps app gives you a better way to find your way. Map elements are vector based, which means graphics and text are incredibly sharp, even when you zoom in. Pan around, and you’ll instantly notice how smooth and responsive Maps is. Need directions from Point A to Point B? Maps not only shows you how to get there, it tells you — out loud, turn by turn. Maps also gives you real-time traffic information and reroutes you to avoid delays. For a completely new perspective, switch to Flyover and explore major metro areas from above with photo-realistic, interactive 3D views.

iPhone 5 Rumour Round-up

The next iPhone is coming, and is expected to be announced on the 12th September and be available to buy in apple stores from around the 21st. The devices are usually available to pre-order before the release date and so we can expect to start ordering directly from apple at some point after the announcement, possibly as soon as the event finishes.

The biggest change we are expecting from the current iPhone 4 is a 0.5″ longer screen taking the device’s screen from 3.5″ up to 4″ however not getting any wider, meaning the phone should feel similar to a current iPhone in your hand, the main advantage of this screen size is the ratio, meaning widescreen films will fill the screen and avoid the usual black bars at the top and bottom of the screen (when viewed sideways) The video below from MacRumors shows how this may work.

The phone itself will look similar to the current phones we have with the addition of a 2-tone back cover made from aluminium and glass, and will be slightly thinner than the current phone. The dock connector has also been replaced with a smaller one and so existing accessories will need an adapter or also require updating to accommodate the new connector.

Apple has dropped the numbering scheme from its new iPad and so we expect the new iPhone to just be called “The New iPhone” however the media invitation seems to hint at the number 5 as it is being cast as a shadow from the date.

The technology being used in the new iPhone is likely to be the new faster 4G LTE networks we are seeing becoming popular with android and windows handsets which will mean faster downloads (video, apps & music) alongside a new faster A6 processor, the actual details will obviously be announced at the event however these are pretty standard improvements that are to be expected from any new iPhone release.

Finally the iPhone 3GS will most likely be discontinued with the release of a new device, pushing the iPhone 4 into the “Free on Contract” space, and moving the iPhone 4s into the middle position.

A Closer Look

Larger 4″ Screen

All the evidence so far is pointing towards a larger 4″ screen on the new device. There have been many leaked parts that confirm this size and also the new iOS6 software supports the resolution 1136×640, which is a widescreen resolution requiring a differently shaped screen.

Lots of parts have been leaked this time around and so we can confidently say that the new iPhone will have a different screen to current and previous devices, the only real question seems to be what happened to Apple’s usual watertight security!

New Dock Connector & Headphone Jack

For the first time in many years apple is changing its universal dock connector. The new design is long overdue and reduces the size of the connector from the chunky 30 pin dock plus we are used to down to a smaller more neat looking rounded connector. Apple have also moved the headphone connector down the bottom of the device next to the dock connector, this may also be a move to reduce the number of pins needed on the dock connector itself by moving all audio functions into the headphone jack rather than the docking cable itself.

Nano SIM

Following on with the “smaller is better” theme apple have once again reduced the size of the SIM card that the phone accepts, from the currently used “micro SIM” which was introduces by apple with the iPhone 4.

A6 / LTE Processor

Finally apple seems to be bringing LTE to its devices, a feature that has been sported by many android phones for a while now and the technology was present when the iPhone 4s was being designed, however not included as apple saw it as too unstable and using up too much power and so reducing he devices battery life.

The new Qualcomm MDM9615 Chipset is promised to introduce the much needed LTE speed with an improved battery life on IOS devices.

Many rumors have been floating around the processor being used in the new iPhone and we have come to settle on a new A6 chip being used, the current iPhone 4s uses a dual core A5 processor, and we have read rumors that Apple might partner with TSMC on chip production using a 28-nanometer process, but it now appears that Apple will stick with Samsung and its 32-nanometer process, while moving to a quad-core processor. All of this should mean a faster CPU with reduced power consumption and so extended battery life.

NFC Near Field Communication

Sadly not, this has turned out to be a false alarm, with the particular component rumored to be an NC chip turning out to simply be the earpiece speaker. There may be some logic behind this move as an article at the Wall Street Journal talks about.

The iPhone 5 is coming on the 12th September

Apple has just sent out its traditionally cryptic invites to the next big event in the tech calendar, The invitation says the event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts at 10:00 am (Pacific Time).

The image which is above may be a clue as to the content of the event, seeing as the shadow of the “12” is actually a number 5, possibly hinting towards the announcement of the long awaited iPhone 5. This event has been planned for some time as the date had been leaked a few months back however nothing had been confirmed at that stage.

For those of you that haven’t been keeping up we also have an article about the name of the new device and also the possible design of the new iPhone. The updates specs of the device are rumored to support 4G LTE networks, and feature a larger 4″ sharp touchscreen, along with NFC technology to use with the new apple walled feature integrated into iOS6.

Typically around this time of year apple will also announce a new iPod and there are also rumors that an iPad mini will be announced at this event also however i personally cant see apple throwing all these different devices out at the same time as people wouldn’t be as likely to buy them all at once!

Finally there are a couple of rumors surfacing around an all new product previously dismissed by Steve Jobs the “iTV” which is something of a wildcard, it has been on the table for quite some time however never actually made it into production and who know’s this could be epic, it could also be a giant flop, only time will tell.

iPhone Release Date? Media Event Confirmed

Apple has confirmed they will be holding a “Media Event” on the 12th September 2012, in just over a months’ time. While the source of this leak has not confirmed the content of the event, however it would fall in line with the release rumors that this was indeed the iPhone 5’s launch event, or as we believe it will be called, The New iPhone.

iMore has made the following statement

Apple hasn’t yet officially announced the fall event at which it is expected to debut the next iteration of the iPhone, but it’s definitely planning one.

iMore was first to report that the company has scheduled a special event for Wednesday, September 12, and now we’ve confirmed it as well. Sources tell AllThingsD that Apple is currently planning an event for that week. And while we haven’t yet confirmed its focus, history suggests it will indeed be the new iPhone.

This media event is believed to announce that the release date of the new iPhone will be the 21st September 2012, along with the release of iOS6 which will be available as a free upgrade to iPhone 4 and 4S customers, and also the new hardware of the iPhone 5 (The New iPhone).

The video below shows the outer casing of a new iPhone device for those of you that haven’t seen it already.

iPhone 5 Design Leak?

Some new pictures have been released by GottaBe mobile apparently showing the form factor and basic design of upcoming iPhone 5.

The design is similar in appearance to the current iPhone 4s however with what looks like a 2 tone back cover and slightly longer than the current model. The dimensions of this particular “Engineering Sample” are 58.6mm Wide by 120mm Long, this is just under 5mm extra and would accommodate for the rumored larger widescreen format to be included with this release.

iPhone-5-Engineering-Sample-Back-620x366The design is consistent with the previously rumored iPhone 5 Front Panel leaked earlier this month and also the rear of the device is consistent with other leaks previously in the year featuring a 2 tone rear panel rather than the current one piece glass design.

The camera aperture on the rear of the device appears to be the same as on the current iPhone 4s with the addition of a rear facing microphone which is assumed to be for video recording or improved noise cancellation in calls.

iPhone 5 Front Panel Leaked

A new part which apparently is from the iPhone 5 has been leaked today, apparently showing a larger form factor screen than previous models, measuring approximately 4″ from corner to corner.

The Chinese blog MyDrivers claims to have received the part from a source in the supply chain, however at this stage it is unlikely that parts would go missing without being noticed and so this report is unreliable at best. Although there are a large number of rumors recently saying about the new larger screen and so this one could have some substance.

Another point worth noting is that the screen is an edge to edge design, removing the borders from the side of the screen as there are in current models.
